The Association for a Better New York (ABNY) is a coalition of business, labor, non-profit and political leaders focusing on challenges facing New York City. ABNY was conceived by real estate developer, Lew Rudin in the early part of the 1970s – a time when New York City faced severe financial crisis.

The initial ABNY logo was a simple, all-cap, san serif mark, lasting for over 30 years. However, after 2001, the growth of ABNY coincided with a transforming, post 9/11 New York City. Heated real estate, tech growth, and emerging global markets brought new challenges and international competition. The rebranded mark was to be modern, bold, and clean, with an important artifact from the past – an apple. Affectionately known as “Mr. New York,” Lew Rudin personally handed out thousands of Golden Apple lapel pins, displaying his passion and pride for the City he loved.
